Formula 1 technology for public roads
What happens when Formula 1 technology literally takes to the streets? And what do you feel when you come face to face with two of the most extreme Mercedes-AMGs ever built? In February, the Louwman Museum presents an exceptional duo: the Mercedes-AMG ONE and the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Edition One. On display in our Pitstop from 1 February through 1 March.
The successes of Mercedes-Benz in Formula 1 were unprecedented halfway through the previous decade. World titles followed one another in rapid succession, and within the factory a bold idea emerged: develop a road car with the powertrain of a Formula 1 car. The project turned out to be an enormous technical challenge and teetered several times on the brink of cancellation. Even so, Mercedes pushed through. Eight years of development later, it was there: the Mercedes-AMG ONE. The ONE is a hypercar without precedent. A 1.6-liter V6 turbo engine, directly derived from the F1 race car, paired with four electric motors. The result: more than 1,000 hp, a top speed of 352 km/h, and performance that until recently was unthinkable for a road-legal car. Only 275 units were built, making the ONE one of the most exclusive Mercedes models ever.
The Louwman Museum is presenting the ONE together with a rare companion: the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series Edition One. This special version was available exclusively to buyers of the ONE and was therefore ordered in very limited numbers. The GT Black Series is AMGs ultimate track weapon for the public road, powered by a 4.0-liter V8 biturbo with 730 hp, active aerodynamics and an imposing rear wing. A no-compromise machine, built for lap times and pure performance.
That both cars can be seen together makes this Pitstop special. Not every ONE owner opted for the accompanying GT Black Series, which is why this duo is rarely shown as a set. In February, the Louwman Museum will tell the story of ambition, perseverance and extreme engineering.
