Dunlop Ltd. was a manufacturer of natural rubber goods founded in 1889 in Dublin, Ireland by Havey du Cros and John Boyd Dunlop. They invented and developed the first pneumatic tyre. J.B. Dunlop, however, saw no prosperous future in his invention and relinquished his rights to the company early on. His name did stick with the company though. This is a Dunlop Cord advertising poster by an unknown artist. The focus is quite clearly on the front Dunlop tyre of the automobile. What makes the poster really interesting is the shadow on the wall behind the car of a female driver. The dawn of the automobile went hand in hand with an ever growing liberation of women in general. Women now had the freedom to move themselves around just as their male counterparts and partake in a far wider world than they were traditionally used to in their home and closed setting.
