Rayond Gid was a French typographer and graphic artist. As a film enthousiast he designed posters for many French films as well as more commercial work for Club Mediterranée and Bally Shoes. Gid’s work is known to be very simplistic yet extremely elegant, as well as expressive and usually a bit whimsical. His simplistic style is evident in this poster, where his use of black tones and the colour yellow, as well as his elegant lines emphasise the movement of the Dux automobile. Dux (-Automobil-Werke AG) was a German automobile and commercial vehicle manufacturer from Wahren (Leipzig). Dux manufactured cars and trucks from 1909 to 1926. The company was founded as the Polyphon Music Factory in 1895 by Gustav Brachhausen and Ernst Paul Rießner, later diversifying into luxury automobile production.
