Lithograph on paper Leopoldo Metlicovitz was an Italian painter, illustrator and poster designer. He is known as one of the founders of modern (Art Nouveau) Italian poster art. In 1892 Metlicovitz began working for Giulio Ricordi, a publisher of mainly Italian classical music and opera, creating posters and illustrations. Many works by the most famous composers of the time were promoted with posters by Metlicovitz: from Giacomo Puccinis Tosca (1900) and Madame Butterfly (1904) to Iris by Pietro Mascagni (1898). In this poster we are introduced to the heroic aspect of an automobile, with a Michelangelo like male nude that expresses optimism and faith in the future. Printer Off. G. Ricordi & C.- Milan.
