Quick! a Bris

Vite! un Bris

Lithograph on paper Franc Malzac was a French painter, draftsman and poster artist. He studied art in Bordeaux and then in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. He first became attached to landscapes, then became a drawing teacher at the Societe Philomathique de Bordeaux and later started an artistic workshop for printing posters in Bordeaux. Many of these posters were produced by the printing house Charles Verneau in Paris. This poster by Malzec is to promote a French aperitif. In 1904 few people owned a car and even fewer would reach for a glass of Kina-Bris Absinthe liqueur while driving their automobile with one hand. (As a museum we naturally disapprove of this behavior!) Printing house Charles Verneau, 114 Rue Oberkampf, Paris Fiscal stamp (tax stamp) for collecting taxes or levies on advertising in France.
