The finely painted reeds and the distinctive color of this Benz Velo Comfortable give it a rich appearance. It is also a slightly more advanced and more luxurious version of the Velo, which is presented at the World Exhibition in Chicago in 1893. The Benz Velo Comfortable becomes the first mass produced car. It is built for almost ten years, until 1902, in various versions. Thanks in part to this model, Benz is the largest car factory in the world in 1898. By that time Benz has already sold more than 1,600 cars. This Comfortable type is introduced around 1897. The regular Velo costs about 2,000 marks, but this more luxurious Comfortable even costs 2,500. It is also one of the first car models to offer an options list: pneumatic tires cost an extra 350 marks, a special planetary gearbox with three forward gears and one reverse costs 200 marks, and a parasol 100 marks. The engine has an output of 2.75 hp and the car has a top speed of 30 km/h. The standard Velo reaches only 21 km/h.
