Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Coupe Split Window
The split window coupe is the most desirable version of the Chevrolet Corvette.
The split window coupe is the most desirable version of the Chevrolet Corvette. The divided rear window was used on this American sports car for only one year because the chief engineer felt that rear visibility was too limited. The shark inspired body design of this Sting Ray (later Stingray) is by Larry Shinoda, under the supervision of design chief Bill Mitchell. Although many European sports cars are imported into the US after the Second World War, they do not meet the demands of most American consumers. Even sports cars, in their view, must be built for long straight roads and offer a certain level of comfort. That is why General Motors introduced the Chevrolet Corvette in 1953, named after a corvette, a small and agile warship. The bodies were made of polyester, a technique taken from boat building. The Stingray is the second generation of the Corvette.
