International Benz 3,5-hp
This is not a Benz made in Germany, but in England.
This is not a Benz made in Germany, but in England. The International Motor Car Company in London, owned by Oscar E. Seyd, began assembling Benz automobiles for the English market in 1898. Many original Benz parts were used for the car, which is based on the Velo type. However, the bodywork is somewhat more British than that of the German Velo; note the beautiful Chesterfield seat and the generous use of copper. From the many badges – also something the English in particular are fond of – you can see that this specific car has already taken part in quite a few classic runs. As early as 1934 this International Benz was bought directly from the first owner, Mr Miles from Brighton, Sussex, by C.S. Burney. In the same year Burney drove it in the London to Brighton Run, something he would go on to do several more times. The car is still a regular participant in the Run.
