Inspired by the Art Deco art movement and by the coachwork designs of Figoni & Falaschi and Saoutchik from the 1930s, Terry Cook and Frank Nicholas of Deco Rides from New Jersey, USA, created this remarkable design based on a 1939 Lincoln Zephyr. The bodywork is made of fiberglass, and the power comes from a 5.7-liter Chevrolet small-block V8. The chassis has been extended to make room for the motorcycle, a 1992 Harley-Davidson Sportster with a hand-formed aluminum body. The platform on which the motorcycle stands can be electrically slid in and out of the car. The project is completed in 2008. Customizing means modifying everyday objects, both technically and in appearance, according to one’s own taste and ideas. As far as cars are concerned, this trend really takes off in post–World War II America. Old cars are snapped up for next to nothing, mainly by young people, and then fitted with tuned engines. These cars, often painted in flashy, bright colors and fitted with many chrome parts, are called hot rods, street rods, or custom cars.
