With its pastel shades and rounded shapes, this Lloyd Alexander TS is a typical German "Kleinwagen" from the 1950s. This TS model, which stands for "Touring Sport", is fitted with a 25 hp two-cylinder four-stroke engine with a capacity of 596 cc, coupled to a fully synchronized four-speed gearbox. As a result, this four-seater, which weighs just under 600 kilograms, can according to the factory reach a top speed of around 110 km/h. That may sound very ambitious, but the 12-hour race at Hockenheim (D) in 1958 was won by an Alexander TS with an average speed of 110.7 km/h. In 1959 alone, around 40,000 examples of the Lloyd Alexander were sold. Nevertheless, the parent company, the Borgward Group, ceased to exist in 1961. For Lloyd, the curtain fell two years later.
