March 707 Canam

CanAm stands for Canadian American Challenge, a racing series that was very popular in the mid 1960s.

Factory driver Chris Amon straps constructor Robin Herd into the passenger seat during test runs so that Amon can explain to him precisely and directly what he thinks still needs to be improved on the car. After all, it was Amon himself who suggested to the young brand March that they should build a car for the CanAm races. Since there are virtually no regulatory restrictions on engine power and technology in these races, this aluminum March 707 is fitted with an 8.2 liter Chevrolet V8 that delivers 720 hp. Typical for the March are the two stabilizing flippers at the front. The name March 707 Canam alone calls for an explanation. March is an acronym formed from the names of the founders: Max Mosley, Alan Rees, Graham Coaker and Robin Herd. The number 707 means a car for the 1970 season in racing category Group 7. CanAm stands for Canadian American Challenge, a racing formula that was very popular in the mid sixties. Three March 707s were built, two for Chris Amon and one for Helmut Kelleners. The cars did not achieve any success in the CanAm series.
