Three of the 330 examples of the Spyker C1 13/30 HP Torpedo Touring that were built were delivered to Queen Wilhelmina. This luxurious Spyker is the first car model that the factory releases after the First World War. However, with its 3.6 liter four cylinder engine, the C1 is seriously underpowered and disappears from the scene after two years. Since 1915 Spyker has once again been in different hands. The director is now Henri Wijnmalen, aviator and aviation pioneer. Because the First World War has broken out, there is little demand for cars and all the more for aircraft. With additional borrowed money, Wijnmalen manages to turn Spyker, alongside a car manufacturer, into a fully fledged aircraft builder as well. During the war the company is mainly occupied with the construction of aircraft. In this period the famous Spyker logo with the aircraft propeller and the spoked wheel is also created, which shows on the tire the Latin text 'Nulla tenaci invia est via' (for him who perseveres, no road is impassable).
