Spyker C4 All-weather Coupé
The luxury and reliability of the C4 earn Spyker in England the label 'The Rolls-Royce of the Continent'.
This Spyker C4 has imitation snakeskin leather upholstery. On the luggage rack there is a serrated edge to scare off mischievous boys who secretly want to hitch a ride. Its power unit is a 5.7 six cylinder from the German airship and car manufacturer Maybach. In the engine bay there is an extra cooling fan with two speeds. The Spyker C4 is equipped with brakes on all wheels, new at the time. Also note the four spare wheels in total on the running boards and the then still unusual side mirror. The provincial license plate with the letter G is from Noord Holland. The luxury and reliability of the Spyker C4 earned Spyker in England the description "The Rolls Royce of the Continent". Selwyn Francis Edge, who in 1907 set the 24 hour record on the Brooklands circuit with the Napier that can be seen elsewhere in the museum, returned there in 1922. This time, however, with a Spyker C4 and now for a "Double Twelve": at Brooklands driving at night was no longer allowed because the circuit was in a residential area, so Edge now drove two times twelve hours. With the Spyker he did set a new record: a total distance of 2,860 kilometers and an average speed of 120 km/h.
