Everything about this car is original, which is extremely special. It can even be described as the most original Mercedes-Benz SSK, for connoisseurs the most famous Mercedes model of all time. Only thirty were built, mainly for racing. Partly because of this, very few completely original SSKs have survived. This example comes from private ownership and was delivered in England in 1929 to a major in the British army. The car changes hands several times and is bought in 1941 by car enthusiast George Milligen. He puts the car up on blocks because during the war he does not want to drive a German car in England. After the war he drives it often. The car remains in his possession until his death in 2004, after which it is acquired by the Louwman Museum. During restoration it turns out that all part numbers are still original, except for the crankcase. The original case was on a car that Milligen had once sold to Mercedes-Benz. When inquired, this part turns out to still be there. Thanks to cooperation with the Mercedes-Benz Classic Center, this original crankcase has been fitted back under this SSK, returning the car completely to its original condition. SSK stands for Super Sport Kurz. It is a car derived from the S type, with a shorter chassis for better road holding and handling. The SSK has a seven-liter six-cylinder engine producing 140 hp without and 200 hp with supercharger. The top speed is almost 200 km/h. It is the last car that Ferdinand Porsche developed for Mercedes-Benz before starting his own company. The SSK has countless racing victories to its name, such as the Grands Prix of Spain in 1929 and 1930, Argentina 1931, Germany 1931 and the Mille Miglia of 1931. In 2010 this car completed the historic Mille Miglia without any problems.
