The chauffeur not only has to be able to drive the car, he also has to be able to carry out minor repairs. At the beginning of the twentieth century Panhard et Levassor is a leading name in luxury automobiles and quickly grows into one of Frances larger car manufacturers. In 1907, the year this car was built, Panhard & Levassor produced 1,099 automobiles, 515 of which were exported. By 1910 these numbers had almost doubled. Panhard & Levassor, later Panhard, was taken over by Citroen in 1965 and shortly afterwards ceased to exist as a brand.
