Sizaire Frères 4ri Saloon With Weymann Coachwork
The worlds first production car with four independently suspended wheels.
After leaving Sizaire Naudin, Georges Sizaire started producing a four door sedan under his own name, Sizaire Freres, together with his brother Maurice. This car is unique in the sense that it is the very first production car in the world with four independently sprung wheels. It used transversely mounted leaf springs, as had already been applied on the earlier Sizaire Naudins. However, the mechanism was more refined and was therefore used for all four wheels. Power was provided by a four cylinder overhead camshaft engine producing 50 hp. The Weymann bodywork of this car, consisting of stretched leather over a wooden frame, was light, enabling the car to achieve more than respectable performance (top speed approx. 120 km/h). Later, a sportier version was built with an engine featuring four valves per cylinder, something unique at the time for an "ordinary" car. The car may have been too advanced for its time, as production ceased quite quickly. As a result, only a small number were built, making this a very rare example.
