The angular style in which the bodywork of this Triumph was built is called Razor Edge, the cutting edge of a razor. This fashionable style is usually found on more expensive cars such as Bentleys and Rolls-Royces. The body is hand-built by Mulliners of Birmingham. This is the rare limousine version of the Triumph Renown. Behind the driver there is a glass partition window. Fewer than two hundred examples of the limousine were built and as far as is known this is the only one that still survives. Triumph, originally a motorcycle manufacturer, was taken over after the war by the Standard Motor Company. The Triumph Renown and the smaller Mayflower, both in Razor Edge style, were among the first new products. They were Triumphs attempts to bring a small car with a luxurious appearance to the market. The model designation Renown, named after a British warship, was in fact only introduced in 1949. By then the car had already been in existence for three years.
