De Grand Prix van Monaco 1938
For the Monaco Grand Prix in 1937, Mercedes built the brand new W125, with an inline 8 5660 cc supercharged engine producing 646 hp (at 5800 rpm). The most thrilling duel in the race unfolded between two members of the Mercedes team, Manfred von Brauchitsch and Rudolf Caracciola. In this illustration, Caracciola is lapping the Alfa Romeo of Giuseppe "Nino" Farina while Von Brauchitschs car is further ahead, leading through the right hand corner towards the sea.
