Austin A90 Atlantic Convertible
Few people, at first glance, would immediately think this car comes from England, with its long front fenders that only disappear at the rear, the covered rear wheels, the many chrome strips and the fog lamp in the middle.
The idea is also not for it to look English, because this Austin Atlantic was made specifically for the American market. To draw attention to the car, a successful endurance record attempt was carried out in America in 1949, during which the Atlantic covered 19,000 kilometers in seven days at an average speed of 113 km/h. The idea behind the Austin Atlantic stems from the strongly export focused British government policy after the war: 'Export or perish'. But the Americans preferred their own big V8s over the Austin's 2.7 liter four cylinder. Only about 350 of the roughly 8,000 Atlantics built made their way overseas. The engine was later used in the Austin-Healey 100, which did become a success.
