Ferrari 750 Monza Scaglietti

Ferrari 750 Monza Scaglietti

This 750 Monza Scaglietti is the first racing Ferrari to be equipped with disc brakes.

A lot of racing history is attached to this Ferrari racer. The car was driven by big names from motorsport, such as Mike Hawthorn, Maurice Trintignant, Umberto Maglioli and Jose Froilan Gonzales. With the Dreyfus/Lucas team, the car also took part in the tragically run race at Le Mans in 1955, in which Pierre Leveghs Mercedes shot into the crowd and around eighty people were killed, including Levegh himself. The 3.0 liter four cylinder (!) Ferrari 750 Monza Scaglietti was designed by Dino Ferrari, the son of Enzo, and built by coachbuilder Scaglietti. The car was developed in the early 1950s because four cylinder engines with a large displacement performed excellently in the then new Formula 1. The first Ferrari 750 Monzas originally had large drum brakes, but as an experiment these were replaced by disc brakes. This is probably the first example to be fitted with disc brakes.
