Toyota Corolla

Toyota Corolla

The Corolla is not just a bestseller for Toyota; across the entire automotive industry, few model series have been produced in such numbers. In 2021, the Corolla reached the milestone of 50 million units, and production continues to rise.

In 2007, forty years after its introduction, total sales of the Toyota Corolla reached 35 million units, making it the absolute bestseller of the Japanese brand. This is the first type of Corolla, which has been imported into the Netherlands since 1967. That makes it one of the first Japanese cars in our country. The Toyota brand, thanks in part to the Corolla, gains popularity very quickly. In this segment, the European competition offers models such as the Volkswagen Beetle and the Renault 4, which are less fully equipped than the Toyota Corolla. At that time, Toyota gives every series of cars a type designation related to a crown. The Crown is the top model. Corona and Corolla come from Latin and mean crown and little crown respectively. The first generation Corolla is introduced in 1966 and has a 1.1 liter engine. Later a 1.2 liter version is added. The car is produced as a sedan, a coupe and a station wagon.
