Sbarro Challenge I

Sbarro Challenge I

Franco Sbarro is best known for his conversions, prototypes and replicas, which he has been building in his own factory since 1971.

For anyone who loves wedge shapes, this must be the ultimate automobile. No concessions have been made to that shape in any way; it is never interrupted. In 1985 the Swiss designer Franco Sbarro wants to demonstrate that such a design can achieve a very low drag coefficient. In this case 0.26. Both interior and exterior mirrors are absent, but at the rear there is a large camera that projects images of the traffic coming from behind onto two television monitors in the doors. The Sbarro Challenge I is also equipped with what was then an ultra modern audio system with graphic equalizer and CD player, as well as a video recorder. The Sbarro Challenge I uses Mercedes Benz technology, but the engine serves only as proof that the car would have a certain viability as a production model. The headlights are somewhat reminiscent of those on the Ford GT40. That is also one of Sbarros favorite cars. Franco Sbarro is mainly known for his conversions, prototypes and replicas, which he has been building in his own factory since 1971. In 1992 Sbarro founded a college for car design and construction.
